# Participant privacy policies

> Create and manage privacy policies for research agents in Propane

Create and manage privacy policies for your research agents. Policies are shown to participants before they start a session.

## Creating a policy

Go to **Settings → Privacy** and click **Add privacy policy**. Fill in:

* **Policy name** — an internal label to identify the policy in your settings
* **Notice text** — the text shown to participants. Use `{{policy_link}}` and `{{/policy_link}}` to wrap the text you want linked to your full policy
* **Policy URL** — a link to your full privacy policy, used for the link inside the notice text
* **Data retention** — the number of days to retain participant data. Toggle on unlimited retention to keep data indefinitely, or enter a specific number of days
