These concepts describe how Propane organizes work and intelligence.

Spaces

Spaces are shared workspaces that organize canvases and output by product area or initiative. See Create a Space.

Chat and canvas

Chat is how you work with the AI inside a canvas: you describe what you are working on, the AI asks follow-up questions, and together you refine the plan. Canvas is the live document that captures the output — editable in place or through conversation. See Starting a session and Editing the canvas.

Signals

Signals are a feed of product intelligence built from your connected customer data. Individual pieces of evidence are clustered into traceable signals. (Growth plan.) See Where signals come from.

How they fit together

Signals, Companies, and People are three views of the same product intelligence:
  • Signals show individual units of evidence — a recurring pain point, a requested capability, a trend.
  • Companies show how those signals cluster at the account level — which customers are actually affected.
  • People show the specific contacts behind that evidence — keeping product decisions grounded in real customer voices.
Together, they let you move from “we have seen this pattern” to “which accounts are affected, and who said it.” See Signals, Companies, and People.

Connectors vs Integrations

  • Connectors (MCP) — Authenticated per user. Each person connects their own account to bring live context into a session (for example Notion or Linear). Configure from the composer or Settings → Connectors. See Connectors for how they work and setup guides.
  • IntegrationsOrg-wide connections to tools where customer evidence lives. Once connected, everyone on your team benefits from ingested data for Signals, Companies, and People. See What integrations bring in.
